Doherty Family to Receive Death Benefits from CIA: Reports

Winchester native Glen Doherty was killed in the 2012 Benghazi attacks.

WINCHESTER, MA—The family of Glen Doherty, the C.I.A contractor and former Navy Seal who was killed in the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks, will now be paid death benefits they feel they deserve.

According to reports from numerous media outlets, the C.I.A. informed the Doherty family Monday that they will be paid death benefits allotted for the family of employees and contractors killed overseas. Doherty was required to purchase a government insurance policy while going oversees.

Because Doherty wasn't married and didn't have children, the policy didn't pay death benefits to his surviving family members.

Doherty's sister Kate Quigley, who spoke to the New York Times, stated that he did not know that the insurance policy did not pay any death benefits.

According to a report by WCVB, Doherty was required by the U.S. government to purchase the $4,000 insurance policy every time he went overseas.
