A little over a year ago, Winchester rallied to help Milan Moosavizadeh, a WHS Varsity Soccer player who suffered a catastrophic -- and, sadly, avoidable -- episode that's left him with significant paralysis. We called the initiative Match for Milan.
What began as a simple soccer game exploded into an outpouring of goodwill -- from the amazing $10,000 gift given by the Stephen R. Baum Foundation, to the generosity of Constant Law and the Winchester Coop Bank, to the hundreds of tickets, donations, and auction bids. When all was said and done, we were able ro raise over $40,000 and bought an adaptive van for Milan's family!
It was truly one of Winchester's finest hours. And yet, as wonderful as it was -- and as much progress as Milan has made -- every day remains a challenge. So we’re back with Match for Milan II. Will you join us again this year? With two back-to-back games feature the WHS girls varsity soccer team and alumni as well as the 2011 Middlesex League Champion WHS boys varsity soccer team and alumni, this years' Match for Milan is sure to be another great experience.
Match for Milan is now part of TeamMilan, a long-term support effort with a number of giving opportunities. To find out more, go to TeamMilan.org.
