About the artists, speakers, and topics

Julia Cirignano. Singer and guitarist Julia Cirgnano grew up in Winchester and is a homeschooler.  She enjoys writing her own music and listening to all genres of music, especially country.

Nicole Nacamuli of Slow Food Boston. Slow Food is an international grassroots membership organization promoting good, clean and fair food for all. Nicole will talk about what the Boston chapter does and will touch on its mission, goals, events, initiatives, and how the community can get involved.

Chuck Khuen of Weather Analytics. Chuck will speak on how Weather Analytics took the Unitarian Church building in Winchester, with its more-than-100-year-old systems and made it efficient enough (in the top 20% in the country) to win one of the first Energy Star ratings for a church building in NE. All this with very little money.

Peter Wild Tree Tour. Winchester's famous and historic trees are within a short walking distance of the town center. Take a tour with local tree guru Peter Wild and listen to the history they have witnessed. You will experience our tallest, largest, and most beautiful trees, like the famous beech from the Skillings Estate, circa 1750. Bring samples of plants you would like identified.

Cooking Demo with Sabrina Francucci. Sabrina will make two Italian recipes using fresh farmers market vegetables:

GIARDINIERA, one of the best-known traditional Italian recipes, served as an antipasto together with Italian cold cuts. A healthy, colorful, and tasty combination of cooked vegetables preserved in extra virgin olive oil.

HOMEMADE VEGETABLE BOUILLON, an extremely healthy homemade bouillon to always have on hand for soups, flavoring for roast meats, or broth for risotto.

Michael Leventhal Trio. The Michael Leventhal Trio plays instrumental jazz from the bebop era of the late fifties and early sixties, as well as more contemporary works. Michael Leventhal (piano) is joined by father Maury Wood (bass) and son Isaac Wood (drums).

Demetra Tsechares of Gardens by Demetra will speak on “sneaking food in and other fun garden tricks.” Lots of garden rules are fun to break and result in beautiful gardens. This talk is for people who want to “farm” their yards without putting in an obvious vegetable garden. How can ornamental beds, formal foundation plants, and the like play nicely with edibles? Stock up on great ideas to add beauty and tastiness to your gardens.
