Eric Jay Dolin, Author of Fur, Fortune, and Empire

Open to the general public...Marblehead author Eric Jay Dolin will use a fast-paced 45 minute Power Point presentation using beautiful images from his new book, Fur, Fortune, and Empire: The Epic History of the Fur Trade in America, to discuss the powerful force of the fur trade in shaping the course of American history from the early 1600s through the late 1800s. [ The relentless pursuit of furs left in its wake a dramatic and often tragic tale of clashing cultures, fluctuating fortunes and bloody wars. Although the narrative spans from coast to coast, a large and fascinating part of it focuses on New England and Massachusetts in particular. Dolin is also the author of the 2007 book Leviathan: The History of Whaling in America, which was chosen by the Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times as one of the best books of 2007. ] His new book is the most comprehensive and compelling history of the American fur trade ever written.
