Enjoy a touch of spring at Mahoney’s “Oh, Orchids!” orchid and houseplant festival from Saturday, February 12 through Sunday, February 27. Held in their Winchester, Brighton and Falmouth locations, Mahoney’s will display custom-designed exhibits showcasing orchids and a gorgeous variety of flowering houseplants.
In addition to the exhibits at each of the three stores, Mahoney’s goal is to showcase the orchid as a versatile and beautiful flowering plant.
“Orchids are a spectacular plant to design with,” says James Hohmann, General Manager of Mahoney’s in Brighton, and lead exhibit designer. “They look fantastic in formal residential settings, as well as rustic, exotic and even corporate.”

Varieties range from the new for 2011 stunning Phalaenopsis Double Blue Mystique that showcases a brilliant electric blue, to the heart-shaped Phalaenopsis, timed perfectly for Valentine’s Day. At the festival, Mahoney’s will have fresh new inventories of ten orchid varieties and even more flowering houseplant varieties.
According to Farid Khalil, Mahoney’s Greenhouse Plant Manager, orchids are becoming incredibly popular, as shown by the coincidental orchid festival in Nashua, NH this same weekend. “They’re huge in Europe, especially the Double Blue Mystique.”

Due to their current popularity, more growers have appeared and prices have come down.
“Orchids are now priced similar to a nice floral arrangement but last far longer,” says Khalil. “It’s not uncommon for people to buy them, enjoy them for a few months and then replace them with something new. It’s really an excellent value.”
Exhibits will be up for the length of the festival, from Saturday, February 12 through Sunday, February 27. For more information please visit www.MahoneysGarden.com or call (781) 729-5900.
