Fells Road Woman Comes Home to Find Apologetic Intruder in Bedroom Closet

A Fells Road woman returned home at about 11:45 a.m. Friday to find a young man hiding in her bedroom closet.

The woman told police that she had gone clothes shopping for about an hour, and that when she returned home, she entered through her basement and then noticed a first-floor rear door slightly ajar. She assumed it had been one of her kids, she said.

She then thought she heard a noise upstairs but stopped to listen and didn’t hear anything else, so she went upstairs to put away her new clothes in her bedroom closet.

When she turned the corner to enter her closet, she saw the man standing in the middle of her closet, right in front of her. She began screaming and ran out of the bedroom, downstairs and out of the house, she told police.

The man ran after her saying, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” The woman said she didn’t think the man was trying to chase or catch her; she just thought he was trying to exit the house as well.

She described the man as a white male, 17-20 years old, roughly 5-foot-9, with a very thin build and very pale skin. She said he was wearing a black hooded-sweatshirt with a tan jacket, black pants (possibly sweatpants) and dark sneakers or shoes. He also had on a black stocking hat, a royal blue scarf or neck-warmer, covering the bottom half of his face, and appeared to have white headphones in his ears, she said.

The man initially ran toward Highland Avenue, she said. Multiple Winchester police officers responded to the scene, and later, state police units, including a K9 unit, assisted in the search as well; however, they were unable to locate the man.

The woman said he took a pair of $500 earrings from a jewelry box.

‘Donuts’ at Calvary Cemetery

A caller told police at about 12:31 p.m. Sunday that someone had driven around in circles – or done “donuts” – at Calvary Cemetery in the snow the previous night. The area of damaged grass is driven over regularly by cemetery staff, according to police, and is not near any graves.

Wedding Bands, Engagement Ring Reported Stolen

A Park Avenue woman reported at about 2:01 p.m. Saturday that someone had stolen two wedding bands and an engagement ring from her residence. She said that there were no signs of forced entry but that someone had rummaged through one of her jewelry boxes. She believed the rings were taken sometime Friday, between 8:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The woman said the rings had a combined value of about $3,500.

Arrest

Ioannis V. Hronas, 48, of Marathon Street, Arlington, was arrested at about 6:27 a.m. Saturday on Johnson Road and charged with being in violation of an active harassment prevention order.
