Griffin Museum Anticipates Annual Taste of Winchester
Fine food and drink, music and good company make for merriment in support of art and art education.
It's nearing that time of year when over two dozen local restaurants and wine/beer merchants set up the best of their wares at the . On Friday, March 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the museum will host its 5th annual gala, A Taste of Winchester.
The fundraiser for this non-profit organization supports the museum's operating costs and programming. In addition to exhibitions and a small photography bookshop, the museum offers workshops to children and adults, lectures and juried exhibits for the general population and high school seniors. It's website maintains two virtual galleries with its own guest curator and information on the "critic's pick" of featured photographs.
A Taste of Winchester will feature menu selections from 30 area restaurants and stores. The event, which has been sold out in past years, provides the museum with a significant portion of the annual funding for its photographic exhibitions and programming.

"We feel so thankful to have the support of so many restaurants, stores and people for the Taste of Winchester, for the fifth year," said museum Executive Director, Frances Jakubek. "We’re lucky to have a wonderful committee who really know how to scope out the best eats and plan a great party. The energy of everyone involved is inspiring and we invite everyone to join us at the Griffin Museum and toast the taste."
To make the the event complete, The Hoboken Philharmonic Jazz Quartet,whose members are graduates of , will provide the music.

In advance of the event, the museum will hold a special program for photographers and residents entitled, An Insider’s Look at Photographing Food. Led by renowned photographer, Tony Scarpetta, whose work appears on the pages of many of the leading food and design magazines, the one-time class will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Griffin Museum. Buying ticket ahead of time for A Taste of Winchester is recommended since the event sells out quickly. Tickets can be obtained online, at the museum and at Bookends. Tickets cost $65 each.
