Gun Control: How Prevalent are Firearm-Related Deaths in Middlesex County?

A look at Middlesex County's firearm-related death statistics.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, MA—Gun control is an issue that has polarized the country, with many Americans either strongly for or against the strengthening of gun laws.

According to the Pew Research Center, only 27 percent of homes in the Northeast have at least one gun in the home. That figure is the lowest percentage out of any region in the country.

In turn, firearm-related deaths have actually decreased in recent years. According to the Health Indicators Warehouse, the rate of firearm-related deaths has decreased rather sharply since 2011.

In 2011, there were 2.60 firearm-related deaths for every 100,000 people in Middlesex County. That rate has since been cut to 1.7 deaths in 2013 (the last year recorded by the Health Indicators Warehouse)

Gun-related deaths sharply increased from 2008, a year in which there were 1.4 deaths per 100,000 people, to 2011.
