Herbalism and Fermenting Workshops this Week

Join Wright-Locke Farm this week to learn practical skills for a healthy lifestyle

Wright-Locke Farm (Winchester, MA) offers a number of practical skills workshops throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Workshops this week perfectly suit the spring season and encourage more direct connections to our food. Consider joining the farm this Thursday evening for our Herbalism with Leaves Workshop hosted by local herbalist Steph Zabel of Flower Folk Herbs (May 18th from 6:30 - 8pm). This fun and informative class will cover an array of locally-available medicinal plants that participants will learn to use and enjoy in practical, everyday ways. The leaves workshop will focus on three common wild plants (dandelion, nettle, and violet) with in-depth discussions and tea tastings of each, information about traditional uses and healing properties, and herbal medicine-making demonstrations, including hands-on preparation by participants. Everyone will make an herbal-infused vinegar and oxymel to take home.

Not available Thursday? Consider signing up for our Fermented Beverages Workshop hosted Sunday, May 21 from 2 - 4pm at Saint Eulalia's Parish kitchen. Learn how to make homemade fermented drinks like apple cider, kombucha, ginger beer and ale, milk and water kefir, and more with Education Director Rebekah Carter. This workshop will teach participants how to safely prepare, ferment, and store small-batches of probiotic-rich drinks to enjoy this barbecue season and throughout the year. Samples of raw fermented beverages will be enjoyed and participants will prepare "ginger bug" ginger ale or ginger beer to take home and ferment.

Other upcoming programs include (please visit the farm's website for more detailed information or to sign up; registration is required for all workshops to ensure we have enough space/supplies for everyone attending):
