Lahey Hospital Hosts Free Sessions to Illustrate Quality Care for Patients and Physicians

Lahey Hospital is hosting free public sessions for people in the community to attend & learn about how to receive quality care.

This week (October 19-22) Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) will host the LHMC RightCare Action Week Summit in recognition of RightCare Action Week (RCA Week). RCA week is a grassroots initiative spearheaded by the Lown Institute’s RightCare Alliance to transform healthcare by presenting what better care looks like. As part of the Summit, LHMC’s Department of Internal Medicine will host several sessions aimed at demonstrating to clinicians and patients alike how much better our healthcare system can be when we’re educated on what quality care is. Sessions are free and open to the public.

Shannon Brownlee, MSc (Alumni Auditorium)

Shannon Brownlee is the Vice President of the Lown Institute, a nationally renowned journalist and author of the highly acclaimed book Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer. Shannon will discuss how patients can receive safe, affordable, and appropriate patient care.

October 22, 2015 12:30 p.m.

Elizabeth Collins, MD (Alumni Auditorium)

Well known to the Lahey community, Dr. Collins is an internist, hospice and palliative specialist who works with chronically ill patients and their families. During this session she will interview a patient to demonstrate the confusion patients and their loved ones experience when faced with difficult medical decisions. Audience members will walk away with a better understanding on how to navigate their own and their loved ones care.
