Main Street Fire Results in Death of Family Dog, One Resident Injured
A fire on Main Street in Winchester killed a family dog and injured a resident Sunday morning.

WINCHESTER, MA—A house fire on Main Street in Winchester resulted in the death of a family dog and injured another resident Sunday morning.
Winchester Fire Department Captain Greg Quill told Patch that firefighters arrived to the scene and observed a heavy fire and smoke coming from several windows. Quill also told Patch that a resident tried to re-enter the house and save the family's Labrador retriever.
The home sustained extensive damage, according to Quill.

The Winchester Star reports that the resident was 12 years old, and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for injuries. The Star reports that the State Fire Marshal's office determined that the fire was caused by someone burning laces of a lacrosse stick which was placed on a couch which later ignited.
The Winchester Star also reports that property loss was estimated at $250,000.

Jennifer Mieth, a spokesperson for the State Fire Marshal's office was not immediately available for comment.
