Truck Crashes into Wires

Several wires knocked down on Wildwood Street and Woodside Road.

There was a single car accident on the corner of Woodside Road and Wildwood Street. A tractor trailer driving along the road got caught up in some low-hanging utility wires, pulling a number of them off the poles. According to Lieutenant Gregory Quill of the Winchester Fire Department, the truck struck a branch and pulled it into the wires, knocking them down.

Traffic heading onto Woodside from Wildwood has been shut down. The Department of Public Works is also on the scene. There were no injuries reported.

Quill and the Winchester FD needed Verizon to come and assess the damage. NStar showed up at the scene and tied the wires back to their previous position using rope, in order to remove them from Wildwood Street.

The wires are telephone wires and not electric. But the the Verizone employee at the scene believed that the homes in the area will be without phone service until some time later tonight.

The truck had received directions from someone at Lynch Elementary school to take Woodside to Wildwood. The truck was carrying school furniture, specifically cafeteria tables to the school.

The fire department as well as Verizon believes, that while the wires were probably hanging to low, it is not an ideal route for a tractor trailer to take.
