Music MAYnia Draws Performers, Fans and Supporters

There's something for everyone at the Winchester Community Music School event.

You usually have to travel a long distance to see a music festival, but for the seventh year in a row residents can be part of Winchester's musical extravaganza and community happening.

On Sunday, May 1 volunteers will prepare the refreshments, stock the arts and crafts tables, check the face paint and make ready the May pole.

Performers, 225 of them aged nine to 90 will warm up their instruments, all manners of them, from piano to drums, from voice to marimba in preparation for their music marathon.

Those attending Music MAYnia at the on Sunday, May 1 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. will  be transported by musical trolley from the parking lot at the to the Winchester Community Music School.

There will be performances of classical music, rock, jazz or the beat of Broadway. Attendees can make a CD or take a demo lesson, while they're there. The Jubilee Singers and the Chamber Singers will also be making an appearance.

It's all in the spirit of WMCS' fundraiser, which provides discounted lessons, scholarships and subsidies to all who want to learn. This non-profit has a faculty of over 60 members who teach the skills to a number of different students

"I'm thrilled that the event is driven by community. Local businesses support us, residents enroll here, and new family and friends come to help us celebrate. Music MAYnia portrays our mission in its truest sense. We strive to enrich lives and nurture the joy of music in a welcoming atmosphere," said Executive Director Laurie Russell.
