In this era of cell phones, we tend to rely on our phone cameras to capture things we want to remember. But did you know that by sketching something, you are much more likely to remember the moment and experience it more deeply? In this workshop, we will learn the basics of observing and recording nature. Karen will spend the first 20 minutes with you in the barn, teaching you how a nature artist can quickly gather information out in the field and hone their skills of observation. She will teach you basic skills and share tools to make your drawing practice easier. Weather permitting, we will move outdoors to practice our nature observing and recording concepts. You will leave this workshop with the ability to create a travel journal or nature sketchbook, and have new drawing skills for life. Please note: this workshop will be hosted rain or shine (if raining, workshop will be hosted entirely in the 1827 Barn).
Tuition fee: $15 per person REGISTER NOW --> kids ages 8 and up can sign up to attend with a parent or caretaker!

Making Healthy Stocks and Soups Workshop
Saturday, November 11 from 10am - 12pm
Homemade soups are not only a delicious and satisfying way to eat local veggies during the cool weather months- they can also be packed full of nutrients your body craves and needs. Join Education Director Rebekah Carter to learn how to make delicious nutrient-dense stocks and soups before the cold weather settles in. This class will include discussing how to make gelatin and mineral-rich chicken and beef-based stocks, and how to incorporate such stocks into soups featuring local and seasonal vegetables and herbs. Two pots of soup will be made using chicken stock (hearty chicken soup and curried lentil soup); soups will be served at the end of the workshop with delicious fresh breads from Mamadou’s Artisan Bakery and grass-fed butter from Walden Local Meats (butter available in our farm stand).
Tuition fee: $40 per person REGISTER NOW
