Organic Gardening and Wreath Making Workshops
Join Wright-Locke Farm this weekend for spring-inspired workshops
May is a busy time of year for any farm, but it's especially true for Wright-Locke Farm (Winchester, MA). With all of our education programs, special events, organic agriculture, and open green space, there is no storage of work to be done! Though farm staff and volunteers may be running around to get the job done, we hope our many visitors and program participants can enjoy the tranquility of the spring season on the farm by simply stopping by for a stroll or attending one of our many seasonal workshops for adults and teens. These programs teach practical skills related to healthy living, small-scale "backyard" agriculture, and the wonders of nature. Individuals ages 14 and up may attend unless stated otherwise; some programs are open to kids ages 8 and up when attending with an adult.
Starting off the month is our Organic Gardening Workshop with John Root this Saturday, May 6 from 10:30am - 12 noon with an "early bird" Wright-Locke Farm seedling sale immediately after. Featured topics will include composting and mulching to promote healthy soil, using space efficiently, growing plants from seed, succession planting, inviting beneficial wildlife, controlling weeds and pests naturally, and preserving homegrown produce. Select perennial seedlings grown by John Root and Wright-Locke Farm’s organic annual seedlings will also be available for purchase immediately following the workshop (cash and check can be accepted by both the farm and Mr. Root; credit cards can only be accepted for WLF seedlings). Kids ages 8 and up may be registered to attend this workshop with an adult.
Anyone looking to add a touch of nature to their doorstep should consider attending our Spring Wreath Making Workshop with Ferriss Donham on Sunday, May 7 from 10 - 11am. Participants will learn how to create beautiful wreaths using foraged spring foliage and blooms. Each participant will make one wreath using locally-sourced leaves, stems, and flowers to take home and enjoy.
