Would you believe us if we told you that we miss live, in-person storytimes as much as kiddos and caregivers do? It’s true! (As I used to tell the two- and three-year-olds in Step Into Storytime, that was the best part of my work week!)

So it’s especially tough to discover wonderful new picture books that just beg to be read aloud to an audience of kids – and I’ve found plenty of those in the past few months. Just like people, books can be introverts or extroverts: some are perfect for a cozy one-on-one read, with plenty of time to examine detailed illustrations between page turns. Others are packed with bright colors and sound effects (onomatopoeia!), repetition and rhyme, surprise endings, even charades.
