Police Log: Car Accident and Loose Manhole Cover
This is an excerpt of the Winchester Police Log from Monday, September 27 through Wednesday, September 29.

Tuesday, September 28, 8:21 a.m. – Winchester Police stopped a green Nissan Altima on Cross Street by Holton Street because the car had an obstructed license plate. When the officer asked for the driver's license and registration, the man gave him the registration and his passport. The man told the officer that he had a Brazilian license but it was at home.
After entering the man's information into the computer it turns out that his right to operate a vehicle in Massachusetts was suspended. He was issued a citation and the car was towed.
3:34 p.m. – Winchester police were called to Wainwright Road where a woman said she had been a victim of phone fraud. She said that someone called pretending to be her grandson and needed money to bail him out of jail in Spain.

The man said that he had won free tickets for the trip. He said he had gotten in trouble and was being held on $265,000 bail, which he needed to avoid trial. The woman asked for a callback number, but the man refused. He then got angry and began to yell at her. She called her grandson and found out that he was in New Hampshire.
She received another call from a man pretending to be from the US embassy. In order for Verizon to trace the call, the number needed to be the last one that called her and she needs a police report.

4:42 p.m. – Winchester police were called to High Street over by the Ambrose School. A yellow Honda Civic was off to the side of the road and a manhole cover was off to the side as well. The man said that his front tire went over the manhole and knocked it loose. His rear tire then fell into the hole, popping the tire.
The officer called the water department to get it fixed.
9:12 p.m. – Officers arrived at Loring Avenue and Cross Street where there was a car accident. The driver skid past the stop sign at the end of Loring Avenue crossed Cross Street, bounced off of a tree and then hit two parked cars. The woman said that she believed her brakes failed leading to the crash.
The officer believed the woman was speeding and issued a citation for speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to stay within the marked lanes.
