Police Log: Multiple Arrests Last Weekend

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Friday, Dec. 3 to Monday, Dec. 6.

Friday, Dec. 3, 3:52 p.m. –  A Highland Avenue neighbor called police because he was having a problem with his neighbor. He informed police that his property extends 10-feet out to his neighbor's property. But earlier his neighbor cut a trench only 7-feet away from his home. He said he did not approve of the trench and wanted the incident documented for possible court action.

The neighbor said that the trench was for lights. The man also complained that his neighbor would constantly shine two bright lights directly at his property.

9:51 p.m. – A caller informed the Winchester Police Department that they were driving behind a vehicle that was driving erratically. The officer found out that the driver of the vehicle – Paul Marquis – lives on Forrest Street. Upon arrival the officer noticed that Marquis' vehicle – a Mazda – was parked on the street at an angle.

The Mazda was backing up along Forrest Street and was holding up traffic. The officer needed to yell out to the driver or else he would have backed up into a tree.

The officer conducted a field sobriety test, which Marquis failed. He was then arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Saturday, Dec. 4, 10:24 p.m. – A Winchester resident called police because he observed a vehicle swerving side-to-side. The Winchester police officer eventually caught up to the vehicle and noticed that the vehicle was coming close to crossing over the double yellow line and the driver – Mary Plante – was driving erratically.

The officer pulled the vehicle over. There were two other passengers in the car. The officer noticed a strong sense of alcohol. Plante said that they were returning from a wedding where they did have a few drinks. Plante's BAC was a .18 and she was arrested for OUI.

Sunday, Dec. 5, 1:54 p.m. –  Winchester Police received a call from a resident who said that a man – Brett Steenbruggen – was driving a vehicle with a suspended license. She sad that he drover her daughter to the hospital and will be leaving shortly.

The officer searched the man's name in the system and verified that he had a revoked license. He also found out that Steenbruggen has been arraigned 36 other times including five previous times for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The officer began to follow the driver, but Steenbruggen quickly turned into a driveway. The officer then followed him and asked for his license and registration. Steenbruggen said he doesn't have one and was only driving because he needed to get his girlfriend to the high school. The officer then asked why he pulled into this driveway, and he said because he was hoping the officer would drive by him.

Steenbruggen was arrested for operating a vehicle after his license had been revoked.
