Police Save Suicidal Man from Spot Pond

A Stoneham police officer and a Massachusetts State trooper went into the water to save him.

Massachusetts State Police rescued a suicidal man after he jumped into Spot Pond on Friday night.

Police issued a be on the lookout for a suicidal man at about 7:45 p.m. Friday. State Trooper Nicholas Pak and Stoneham Officer John Curtis searched the woods around Spot Pond.

They located a 52-year-old Dorchester man who was standing on a ledge next to the pond. When they approached him, the man jumped into the water.

Pak and Curtis followed the man into the water, but he continued to move deeper into the water. The officers struggled with the man as he attempted to submerge himself, but they were able to rescue him and bring him to the shore.

The man was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for treatment.
