Sachems Cereal to Be Sold in Stores
The Field Development Council is trying to raise funds for Phase 2 of its project.

The Winchester Field Development Council (WDFC) kicked off its Sachem Crunch Cereal fundraiser the week of Sept. 26 with a school-wide “Blitz”. Boxes of Sachem Crunch Cereal are being sold at each school location throughout the week. The school that has the highest sale volume for the week will receive a $1 per box sold donation back to their school.
During the next several weeks the WFDC will offer Sachem Crunch Cereal in locations around Winchester. It will cost $5 per box with proceeds of the Renovation Project.
The town put about $1 million toward Phase 1, which was completed in November 2009 and consists of an artificial turf football field. The council had planned on completing Phase 2, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art track and turf field, solely with private funds. But they recently asked the town to

The state declared the track unsafe for competitive meets over a decade ago, and the Winchester track team has not hosted a track meet since.
“We’re not going to look at another field until this is completed,” said Chris Nelson, Director of the . “A high school track would be something the town has not seen in 10 years.”

Each cereal box contains a set of Winchester related “Fun Facts” and a Word Search Puzzle. One box also contains a “Golden Ticket” worth $2,000.
According to WFDC President, Paul Manganaro, they will be setting up mobile locations all around town in front of various buildings and sporting events. The group is also finalizing three or four locations that will sell the boxes off their shelves.
The cereal is an “all natural cereal made of whole grain oats, cornflakes, raisins and sliced almonds," according to Manganaro.
