Shannon Beach Closed Due To Bacteria Levels

A cyanobacteria bloom in the water has the beach closed to recreational activity.

WINCHESTER, MA — The Department of Conservation and Recreation is implementing a temporary recreational closure at Shannon Beach within Mystic Lakes State Park in Winchester until further notice. The closure is due to a cyanobacteria bloom in the water. It is strongly advised the public should not contact the water during the bloom; Pet owners should keep animals away from the shore line so they don't ingest it.

The water will be retested until bacteria levels are within acceptable limits per Department of Public Health regulations.

If you have questions contact the DPH at (617) 624-5757 or visit the agency’s algae webpage.
