Sports Roundup: Winchester Lacrosse Suffers Last-Minute Loss to Lexington
Here's a look back at the week in Winchester sports.
There aren't many goals scored when the Winchester and Lexington lacrosse teams get together, but it's exciting nonetheless.
The Sachems tied the game in the final minute on a goal from Tyler Calnan, assisted by Andrew Laugharn, but Lexington won the ensuing faceoff and Conor Henrie scored the winner for the Minutemen with seven seconds left.
The two teams had each lost once in the Middlesex League this season and were both crowned co-champions, so Thursday's game was just for bragging rights.

Winchester had lost to Lexington 7-3 last month. The Sachems had been 3-0 in one-goal games until Thursday and was riding a seven-game winning streak.
Minutemen coach Dave Walsh was impressed with Winchester's hustle.

"Part of our problem also was that we allowed Winchester to out-number us in ground ball situations throughout most of the game,” Walsh said.
Winchester was coming in with momentum after on Tuesday. That game was also tied 3-3 until the Sachems scored four unanswered goals in the second half.
Winchester shut out Woburn in the second half behind four saves from goalie Alex Sharp and a strong defensive effort led by Danny Donovan and Peter Troiano.
Girls lacrosse: There was no such excitement with the girls lacrosse team. After losing two of three the previous week, the Sachems responded with three blowout wins in four days this week.
Winchester started on Saturday with a 16-3 win over Wakefield, then beat Burlington 18-5 on Monday and defeated Melrose 15-0 on Tuesday.
McKenzie Tucci scored a game-high five goals against Burlington and Meg Hennessey had two goals and four assists against Melrose.
Baseball: The Sachems started the week with a wild 17-16 loss to Wakefield, then had to wait six days before finally getting back on the field and defeating Burlington 8-3 on Thursday.
The 16 runs scored and 17 runs allowed were the most by the Sachems this season.
Winchester allowed just three runs in an 8-3 win against Wakefield last month.
Softball: Because of rain the Sachems had just one game this week, a 7-3 loss to Burlington on Thursday. That was an improvement over the first meeting against the Red Devils, when Winchester lost 12-0 at home.
