Spring Education Programs at Wright-Locke Farm

Check out our upcoming adult ed program lineup!

With spring finally here, Wright-Locke Farm is excited to present its full list of spring education programs for teens and adults. Programs span subjects related to home gardening and food cultivation, healthy spring-inspired cooking, foraging and herbalism, yoga and pilates, nutrition, and more!

Upcoming workshops include our Home Composting Workshop from 11am - 12 noon. Join Education Director Rebekah Carter to learn about the fundamental science and components of a successful backyard compost system. This workshop will include discussing reasons to compost, carbon and nitrogen balance, common home composting structures and methods, and compost troubleshooting (including non-compostable items, pests, smells, slow decomposition, etc). The tuition fee is $10 per person, and children ages 8 and up may be registered to attend with an adult.

Also coming up is the farm's rescheduled Spring Equinox Walk with local naturalist Boot Boutwell also on Saturday, April 8 from 1:30 - 3pm. We’ll begin indoors in the 1827 Barn with a little poetry and solstice science and lore, and then head out for a walk around the farm looking for signs of spring. The walk will include some plant identification plus fun and interesting natural history. The tuition fee is also $10 per person. Please note- children ages 8 and up may be registered to attend with an adult!

The farm also still has some spots available in our April Vacation and Spring After School Programs for kids in grades K - 5. Limited spots remain, so don't delay your registration! Wright-Locke's Youth Education Programs offer children a unique, hands-on experience learning about farming and the natural world on a historic working farm. All of our programs include lessons and activities related to organic agriculture, the environment, or natural science while utilizing the fields, pastures, barns, and wooded trails as our living classroom. Specific subject focuses include soil, compost, worms, plants, Wright-Locke Farm’s domesticated animals (lambs, goats, chickens, honey bees), land conservation, farm history, select wildlife (plants, animals, insects), and more. Daily activities include visiting or caring for our farm animals, cooking healthy and seasonal dishes to try, tending our two youth gardens, and free choice time to partake in games, arts and crafts, and more.
