Spring Programs at Wright-Locke Farm

Join us for our Spring Equinox Walk with Boot Boutwell on Sunday 3/19

Though it's clear winter is here to stay for another week or so, Wright-Locke Farm is gearing up for another exciting spring season of growing food, hosting educational programs and special events, and being open to the public during daylight hours so anyone can explore our historic farmstead and the wooded trails of the Locke and Whipple Hill conservation areas abutting the property.

To ring in the arrival of spring next week, the farm has welcomed local naturalist Boot Boutwell to lead a Spring Equinox Walk on Sunday, March 19 from 1:30 - 3pm. Please note- children ages 8 and up may be registered to attend with an adult! We’ll begin indoors in the 1827 Barn with a little poetry and solstice science and lore, and then head out for a walk around the farm looking for signs of spring. The walk will include some plant identification plus fun and interesting natural history. The tuition fee is $10 per person. We have a full lineup of spring and summer workshops starting in April, too.

The farm also still has some spots available in our April Vacation and Spring After School Programs for kids in grades K - 5. Limited spots remain, so don't delay your registration! Wright-Locke's Youth Education Programs offer children a unique, hands-on experience learning about farming and the natural world on a historic working farm in Winchester, MA. All of our programs include lessons and activities related to organic agriculture, the environment, or natural science while utilizing the fields, pastures, barns, and wooded trails as our living classroom. Specific subject focuses include soil, compost, worms, plants, Wright-Locke Farm’s domesticated animals (lambs, goats, chickens, honey bees), land conservation, farm history, select wildlife (plants, animals, insects), and more. Daily activities include visiting or caring for our farm animals, cooking healthy and seasonal dishes to try, tending our two youth gardens, and free choice time to partake in games, arts and crafts, and more.
