Straight Outta Winchester: Famous Faces from Your Hometown
Did you know that someone from Winchester has a Heisman Trophy on their mantle?

WINCHESTER, MA—Heisman Trophy-winning halfback Joe Bellino was born and raised in Winchester!
Bellino was known as the Winchester Rifle, because he was never caught from behind on the football team. As a Navy Midshipmen, in just three years, scored 31 touchdowns, rushed for 1,664 yards on 330 carries, returned 37 kicks for 833 more yards and altogether set 15 Naval Academy football records, according to the heisman trophy website.
Bellino was voted as a unanimous All-American in 1960 and won the Maxwell award, as well as the famous Heisman Trophy.

Bellino was also a fantastic baseball player, and was the baseball team captain in 1961. His No. 27 football jersey was retired by the Naval Academy after the 1960 season.
He stayed in the Navy Reserves and became a Captain, and had a 40 year career in the auto leasing and auction industry.
