Winchester High School Student Starts New Society

Junior Ingrid Li started the Entrepreneurial Youth Society.

Ingrid Li wanted to do something different, something unique at . The junior had interest in clubs and other activities, but she also had a passion for business.

And so, Li, with the help of some of her classmates, began the Entrepreneurial Youth Society (EYS).

The EYS is a student-organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and leadership among teenagers. According to Li, EYS creates business projects and events with the goal of earning money. All of the money the society raises will be used to promote education as well as entrepreneurship.

“The goal is for students to actively think about what they have a passion for and implement a business model for it,” Li said.

This year, Li said, the EYS will host its First Annual Night of the Arts on Friday, Dec. 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to promote entrepreneurship, art and enriched education.

According to Li, the student-run event will have Winchester High School students try and raise money through advertising. All revenue earned from the event will go primarily towards the American Studies trip to Chicago.

Li said she hopes this event will promote the WHS art curriculum. She said residents will be able to see skits from the drama club, artwork from students, as well as some performances from groups like the Chmaber Singers and the Octets.

“Arts is a bit under-represented at Winchester High School,” Li said. It’s a night dedicated to showcase the artists.”

Tickets can be purchased at Book Ends and cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.

“If you have a passion, you can start anything you want; that’s the message we’re trying to get across,” Li said.
