Police are "considering its legal options, in the interest of public safety."

Winchester Police are investigating a dog attack in which a Bull Mastiff attacked a puppy on Squire Road on Sunday afternoon.

The puppy’s owner took the dog to a Woburn animal hospital where it died.

Winchester Police and Winchester’s animal control officer “determined that the Bull Mastiff got away from its owner and attacked the much smaller puppy. The investigation also showed that the alleged aggressor dog has been the subject of multiple previous and subsequent complaints about aggressive behavior in Winchester and previously in Woburn where it formally resided,” said Winchester Police.
Police told the owner of the Bull Mastiff that he must turn over the dog for a mandatory 10-day quarantine period during the investigation, but he has not done so. Police are ”considering its legal options, in the interest of public safety,” according to the police.
