Winchester Prom: Florists and Tuxedo Rentals in Town

WINCHESTER, MA—Winchester High School's Junior and Senior Proms are fast approaching, and students are going to be in need of plenty of items to prepare for a night that they will likely remember forever.

Winchester's Senior Prom takes place on June 1 and the Junior Prom on May 13. Many parents and students who haven't experienced prom will realize that it's likely going to cost them a pretty penny. According to a study by VISA in 2015, families in the Northeast often spend up to $1,169 on average during the prom festivities. The good news is, however, that prom spending decreased 6 percent from 2014 to 2015.

VISA offered tips to parents to help them save money on prom night.

• Shop for formal wear at consignment stores or online. As with tuxedos, many outlets rent formal dresses and accessories for one-time use.
• Have make-up done at a department store’s cosmetics department or find a talented friend to help out.
• Split the cost of a limo with other couples.
• Take pre-prom photos yourself and have the kids use cell phones or digital cameras for candid shots at various events.
• Work out a separate prom budget with your child well in advance to determine what you can afford. Set a limit of what you will contribute and stick to it. If teens want to spend more than that, encourage them to earn the money to pay for it or decide which items they can live without.
