The work is expected to begin over the summer and should be completed by the time the school year begins in September. The windows may take a littler longer and may not be finished until after the year begins.
"The plan is to have the roof replaced and 100 percent complete by the start of the school year," McAlduff said. "We plan on putting the project out to bid next week and have a contractor set up by the end of April."
The town will receive the money through the school building authority’s Green Repair Program.
The program’s main goals, according to the agency press release dated March 30, “are to improve learning environments for children and teachers, reduce energy use and generate cost savings for districts (by helping to pay to) repair or replace roofs, windows and/or boilers in schools that are otherwise structurally, functionally and educationally sound.”
The school building authority’s Board of Directors “approved 43 projects in 31 districts,” according to the press release. "Grants for those 43 projects total just under $25.4 million."
McAlduff also said that he is hoping to announce the new principals at the Middle Schooland the sometime next week.
