Winchester Students Recognized for Academic Success
Three Winchester seniors were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.
Over 1.4 million students entered the 2011 National Merit Program by taking the PSAT exam.
Three Winchester students – twins Julia Page and Lucy Page and senior Thomas Yokum – were announced at Tuesday’s School Committee meeting as 2012 National Merit Scholarships.
The 16,000 students that scored the highest on the PSAT exam qualified as semifinalists and will continue in the competition for the National Merit Scholarships, according to Principal, Thomas Gwin.

Julia and Lucy Page were also awarded the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendent Certificate of Academic Excellence.
“The award is given to two high school students who have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of excellence during their high school careers,” Gwin said.

And Timothy Gallagher was given the Massachusetts Second School Administrators Association Student Achievement Award.
“This is given to a high achievement student who has made outstanding conributions to the school,” Gwin said.
