WOBURN AND NANTUCKET, MA — Massachusetts has two new millionaires, who struck it rich this week in state lottery games.

Woburn resident Jose Fernandes became the first $4 million grand prize winner in the lottery’s new “$4,000,000 Cash Doubler” instant ticket game that began last month.

Fernandes opted for a cash prize and received a one-time, pre-tax payment of $2.6 million, Massachusetts lottery officials said in a statement Thursday. He plans on purchasing a house with the winnings.

On Wednesday, Nantucket resident Yancy Contreras Menjivar scored big with a $2 million instant scratch ticket. She won the grand prize in another new game, “$2,000,000 Stacked,” and also chose to receive cash, the Nantucket Current reported.

Menjivar, who owns a house cleaning business on the island, said she plans to save the $1.3 million she was awarded.

She purchased her ticket at the Old South Diner, at 57 Old South Road, Nantucket. The diner will get $20,000 for selling the ticket.

Coincidentally, the Old South Diner has sold three other million-dollar lottery tickets in the past two years.
