5 Upcoming Events at the Woburn Public Library

Fall Festival, Death Cafe, CSI Fact and Fiction and more.

WOBURN, MA — There is a lot going on at the Woburn Public Library this month. Here's a quick snapshot of five upcoming events, according to the Woburn Public Library events calendar.

1. Fall Festival at the Senior Center, Sept. 16

The library will be attending the Woburn Senior Center's Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. Stop by the Library table to learn about upcoming programs, new books and movies as well as cool library resources.

2. Death Cafe at the Woburn Public Library, Sept. 20

The library will be hosting a open, lively and participant-driven discussion about death. According to the posting, a Death Cafe creates a safe space to explore the topic of death. This Death Cafe will be offered as a part of a partnership between the library and the Woburn Council on Aging. Residents are asked to be on time, as latecomers will not be able to join the conversation. The event will run from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. To learn more about Death Cafes, click here.

3. Novel Ideas Book Club, Sept. 21

Library director Andrea Bunker will lead a discussion of Ivan Doig's coming-of-age novel, Last Bus to Wisdom. Copies are available at the front desk. The event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

4. CSI: Fact & Fiction, Sept. 29

This event will feature a discussion with professor Mike Cross, a professor of chemistry and forensic science as well as a department chair of Natural Sciences at Northern Essex Community College. Event-goers will learn strengths and limitations of modern forensics and have a chance to test your skills at crime solving. The event will be located in the study hall and will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

5. Writers' Cabaret Submissions Accepted through Sept. 30

Local writers ages 16 and up are invited to submit work to the WPL Writers' Cabaret. The cabaret is a public venue for sharing short fiction and nonfiction as well as poetry. Those wishing to participate should contact the Woburn Writing Workshop at woburnwritersworkshop@gmail.com with a short description of what you would like to read as well as a sample (less than 1,000 words) of your own work. Submissions will be accepted through Sept. 30. The theme of this cabaret is “Falling”- falling in love, falling out of favor, falling flat, etc.
