Lt. Colonel Sarah-Ann Beal, of Woburn, has two decades of experience in the Air Force. She was promoted to colonel Saturday at a special ceremony in front of her family.

Beal wanted nothing more than for her family, especially her father, a chance to witness the momentous event. Conveniently enough, the ceremony was held at the family’s home in Woburn.

Neil Bottomley, Beal’s brother, told FOX25 that his sister is the first of her position to be promoted to colonel in twenty years. She is now one rank under brigadier general.

The location of Woburn was chosen because Colonel Beal wanted her father to stand witness to the special promotion ceremony. Otherwise, due to health concerns, Arthur Bottomley would not have been able to attend the ceremony in Texas.

As a native of Woburn, Beal asked the Air Force for the ceremony be held at her family’s annual reunion. Her wish was granted. Beal received her colonel pin in front of her father and several other family members.

Beal was quite emotional during the ceremony, but gracious for the support in which her family has always provided.
