Boys' Lacrosse Exits Postseason with Heads Held High

Despite 12-3 opening round loss, Tanners qualified for their first ever tournament this season with young team.

The boys’ lacrosse team’s season came to a close Tuesday, with a 12-3 loss against No. 17 Lincoln-Sudbury in the opening round of the Division 1 East bracket.

The 16th-seeded Tanners not only qualified for their first ever tournament this season, they also managed to secure a home playoff game with their 11-7 regular-season record. However, Lincoln-Sudbury’s skilled players would prove to be too much, even on Woburn’s home turf.

“They didn’t make too many mistakes, and we did,” Woburn coach Ken Blaszka said, “but I couldn’t be prouder of our guys for making the tournament. We have 90 percent of this team coming back too.”

Lincoln-Sudbury (11-7), of the Dual County League, advances to face top-seeded, undefeated Marshfield (20-0) at 2 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the bracket.

On Tuesday, Casey Shea got the Tanners out to an early 1-0 lead, as he found the back of the net less than two minutes in. After three Lincoln-Sudbury goals, Woburn’s John Tobin intercepted a pass from opposing goalie Dan Shaughnessy and launched it into the empty net for a long-range goal.
