City Wants to Buy Old Strand Theater Site for Parking

Mayor Galvin is requesting $1.9 million for more than 60 "much-needed" parking spaces in Woburn Center.

Mayor Scott Galvin has submitted a request for appropriation to the City Council to purchase the site of the former Strand Theater in Woburn Center and turn it into a parking lot, according to an agenda for Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

Galvin's request is for $1.9 million, which would be used to purchase the parcel and build a parking lot "which will accommodate 62 much-needed parking spaces in Woburn Center," Galvin wrote.

Combined with the parking lot being built behind the library, it will create more than 150 new spaces, Galvin said.

The $1.9 million will be for purchasing the parcel and constructing the lot. Galvin said he is available to discuss the Bond Authorization at the City Council Finance Committee meeting.

City Engineer Jay Corey created the plan for Galvin.
