Company Wants To Open Medical Marijuana Dispensary In Woburn

The dispensary would be on Commerce Way and the only facility of its kind off of I-93 between Somerville and and the NH border.

WOBURN, MA -- A fast-growing marijuana company wants to open a location in Commerce Way in Woburn. Littleton-based Sanctuary Medicinals is applying for a special permit to open the 4,500-square-foot medical marijuana dispensary. The company already runs similar facilities in Rochester, NH and Plymouth, NH, and is in the process of getting approval for facilities in Danvers and Peabody. It's marijuana growing operation is in Littleton.

Patients would need to get a a medical marijuana prescription card from Massachusetts Department of Public Health to purchase marijuana at Sanctuary's proposed facility. The facility of its kind would be the only one of its kind on the Interstate 93 corridor from Somerville to the New Hampshire, officials from the company said.

Woburn City Council referred the application to its special permits committee and continued the public hearing to its Sept. 19 meeting.
