“Cummings Concourse” unveiled at Boston’s Museum of Science

Cummings Properties recognized for $2.5 million gift toward major lobby renovation

Visitors to Boston’s Museum of Science are now being greeted by a transformed lobby, including highly visible signage for the newly named “Cummings Concourse.” This designation recognizes a $2.5 million donation by Woburn commercial real estate firm Cummings Properties.

A plaque on the concourse wall reads: “Dedicated in honor and recognition of the entire staff of Cummings Properties, Woburn and Beverly, Massachusetts.”

“It was important to us to acknowledge the vital role our team of more than 360 colleagues plays in making it possible for the Cummings organization to support hundreds of local charities,” said Cummings Properties president and CEO Dennis Clarke.

Clarke and his wife, Alicia, as well as Cummings Foundation founders Joyce and Bill Cummings, recently attended a special event at the Museum to dedicate the renovated lobby. A similar dedication was held for the Museum’s brand new Yawkey Gallery, built with lead support from The Yawkey Foundations.

Cummings Properties has been a corporate member of the Museum for more than 30 years and awarded it a $100,000 grant in 2012 to help bring the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit to Boston.

“Museum of Science is a true Boston institution,” said Clarke, noting that he and Alicia have spent many hours there, first as children themselves and, far more recently, as parents with children of their own. “It is quite an accomplishment that, as the Museum approaches its 185th birthday, it remains relevant and innovative, constantly pushing the boundaries of science education.”

Together, Cummings Properties and Cummings Foundation have awarded more than $140 million in grants to Greater Boston nonprofits alone. Boston Business Journal recently ranked the organization number one on its list of the Largest Corporate Charitable Contributors in Massachusetts.

Cummings Foundation is accepting Letters of Inquiry through October 1 for its “$100K for 100” grant program, which awards grants of $100,000 each to 100 local area nonprofits every year.
