Developer Weakens Flood Plan

At Thursday’s Conservation Commission meeting, it came out that the developer has made significant on site changes to the engineering plan without any approvals or permissions.  Most significantly they have reduced the number of underground water holding chambers from 27 to 13 based on what soil conditions they observed.

We believe that this is an egregious deviation from the approved engineering drainage plan and is a definite threat to flood control.  While the developer believes this action is his right, we cannot believe that after two years of peer and state DEP review and approval a developer can simply make such a significant change without any further review or approval.

We have asked our aldermen to look into this and have sent communications to the state DEP to ask their opinion.   The developer has now asked to meet with our group to explain his rationale and answer any questions we may have.  We will schedule that meeting as soon as we can.
