Harry Potter Finale Opens In Woburn

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiered at midnight on July 15 at Showcase Cinemas. Patch was on hand to take in the action.

Hundreds of muggles sporting scarves, ties, capes, carrying wands and adorned with that icon “z” on their foreheads crammed into early this morning for the midnight showings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the eighth and final installment of the epic movie series.

Emotions ran high as evidenced by Holy Cross student, Meghan Lake, who said, "I grew up with Harry Potter, I'm probably going to cry.”

Josh Gratton, a Middlesex Community College student was equally sentimental when he said, “The films came out when I was eleven, the same age as all the actors. I have been following the series that long. Now that I'm 21, I'm here to see it through until the end, the final battle.”

There were 13 total cinemas reserved for Potter mania at Showcase, running shows between midnight and 12:35. Several theaters got to see the movie in 3D, complete with quintessential glasses meant to mimic the spectacles of the movies' star. The shows sold so well that originally, only 9 theaters were premiering the movie, but with the continuing influx of people from 11 o'clock on, Showcase added 4 more venues at the last minute. Despite this quick-thinking accommodation, people were still turned away.

Young, twenty-something Woburn resident, Matt Baldino, summed up the hysteria surrounding Harry Potter and seeing the midnight showing when he said, “It's a pretty big day. I've followed the series since it started and read all the books. I've watched it since the beginning and I'm here to see the end. It's the first big ending our generation has at the movies.”
