After productive two games, Tanners struggle finding back of the net.

After scoring 26 goals in its previous two games, the boys’ lacrosse team managed just two Monday against a stout Burlington defense.

The two scores, both by Brendan Gilgun, would not be enough, as Woburn lost 4-2 to visiting Burlington to fall to 6-4 on the season.

Woburn’s offense had been humming along, as the team most recently beat Watertown 11-4 and Wakefield 15-14. However, on Monday, Burlington’s ball-control offense and team defense proved to be the difference, as did goalie Chris Ikier.

“Ikier’s been steadfast the whole way for us,” Burlington coach Rob Parkin said after the game. “He’s one of the best goalies in [the Middlesex League], and I feel he’s one of the better goalies in the state.”

With his team up 3-1 after the first quarter, Ikier made four key saves in the second quarter to keep Woburn’s offense at bay. After holding Woburn scoreless again in the third, Ikier finally surrendered a second goal to Gilgun with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

Ikier finished with 10 saves in the game. Teammate R.J. Caruso scored an early fourth-quarter goal to push Burlington’s lead to three, at 4-1, before the closing minutes.

After dominating possession for much of the first half, Burlington had the ball for about 10 minutes in the scoreless third quarter.

Burlington (5-5) is now riding a three-game winning streak. The team will have the week off before returning to action against Watertown on Monday.

Woburn will travel to Medford Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.
