IMAGE GALLERY: Boys' Track Stays Perfect With Win Over Reading
Sprinters and jumpers carry Tanners to 81-55 victory.
In a meet between two of the top teams in the Middlesex League, Woburn’s sprinters and jumpers proved to be the difference.
The Tanners’ sprinters won every individual running event from the 400-meter on down to the 100-meter, and the jumpers won all three of their events in the 81-55 win Tuesday over visiting Reading.
With the win, Woburn remains undefeated, at 7-0. However, the Tanners still have to face the only other team to have beaten Reading (4-2), indoor champion Lexington, on Thursday, May 19, in a meet that should determine the league title.

Earlier in the meet, McAdams won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches, before deciding to stop with the win in hand to save his energy for the quarter. Teammate Valerio Silva was second in the high jump at 6 feet, Reading’s Ryan Maney third at 5 feet, 10 inches.
McAdams also anchored Woburn’s winning 4x400 meter relay team.
In the 200-meter, Silva and teammate Bobby Smith took the top two spots in 22.5 and 23.5 seconds, respectively. Reading Mike McGlatherly was third in 23.9.
Silva also won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.3 seconds, ahead of Reading’s Wil Son, 16.1, and teammate Rodrigo Costa, 16.2.
Smith also had a big day, winning both the long jump and triple jump, with leaps of 21 feet, 11.5 inches and 42 feet, 2.25 inches, respectively. Teammate Craig Langes and Reading’s Maney were second and third in the long jump, while Reading’s McGlatherly and Woburn’s Costa rounded out the scoring in the triple jump. Costa won the 300-meter hurdles earlier in the meet as well.
In the 100-meter Langes and Taylor Jean-Giles took first and second for Woburn in 11.2 and 11.7 seconds, respectively. Maney was third in 11.8. Langes, who’s been battling a hamstring injury, also won the shot put.
In quite possibly the most exciting event of the day, Reading’s Porter edged out Woburn senior Jake Rousakis in the mile 4:33.0 to 4:33.2. Porter stayed on Rousakis’ shoulder most of the way, before out kicking him down the final stretch.
Reading sophomore J.D. Greenfield won the 800-meter in 2:04.6. Woburn sophomore Kyle Sullivan won the two mile in 10:56.5.
Anthony Fodera led a Reading sweep in the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 5 inches. He also won the javelin with a toss of 162 feet even.
