Langes Wins Division 2 Long Jump
Silva second in dash, as Woburn places third at Division 2 Championships.
Senior Craig Langes won the long jump, as the boys’ indoor track team placed third at the Division 2 championships Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Langes leapt 21 feet, 10 inches to take the event by four inches over Needham’s Peter Farlow.
The Tanners finished third with 35 points, behind champion Mansfield, 98 points, and runner-up North Attleboro, 40 points. A dominate Mansfield team won five events, including all three relays.

The Woburn team of Valerio Silva, Michael McAdams, Gavin Wilson and Langes gave Mansfield a run in the 4x200-meter relay.
The first three runners got Langes the baton in second place. He caught Mansfield’s anchor on the backstretch but was narrowly defeated to the line.

The Woburn team ran 1 minute, 32.45 seconds, finishing second to Mansfield’s 1:32.19.
In the 55-meter dash, Silva, a junior, took second, while Langes was two spots back in fourth.
Silva ran 6.59 seconds to finish just behind Dracut’s Keith Hamel, 6.54. Langes ran 6.70.
Senior Rodrigo Costa also placed for Woburn, in the long jump and 55-meter hurdles. Costa was seventh in the long jump in 20 feet, 2.5 inches and eighth in the hurdles in 8.16 seconds.
Woburn’s 4x400-meter relay team, of David Cooper, McAdams, Wilson and Jake Rousakis, also placed, finishing eighth in 3:36.66.
The girls’ team finished 34th at the meet, with the 4x800-meter relay team picking up the team’s two points.
Mansfield also won the girls’ competition, with 67 points.
The girls’ 4x800-meter relay team of seniors Lexi Galvin and Emily Murphy and juniors Kara McCormack and Colleen O’Melia placed seventh in 10:09.97.
Woburn’s 4x200-meter relay team of senior Kristen Abreu and sophomores Catherine Cooper, Kelly Garrity and Shannon Gay was 14th in 1:52.16.
Garrity finished 12th in the 300 in 43.27 seconds, while sophomore Kayla Peary was 16th in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.
The top athletes will move on to next week’s All-State meet, where they will face the best competition from all divisions across the state.
