I am a Russell Street resident, a lifelong resident of Woburn, and a graduate of Woburn High School. I graduated from UMass-Amherst’s Commonwealth College Honors Program with B.A. in Political Science. Subsequently, I received my law degree from New England Law|Boston.

I am a licensed Massachusetts attorney working for a global tax services firm as a tax consultant that specializes in providing transaction tax research services to clients in a variety of industries. I believe that my education and experience in the private sector navigating the complex federal and state tax laws, regulations, as well as local laws and ordinances, has prepared me to serve and assisted me in serving on the city council.

It has been an honor and privilege serving as your alderman. We’ve faced a lot of challenges in our ward and we have taken them on, together. As your alderman, I have made decisions on a variety of issues with the best interests of Ward 7 and Woburn as a whole in mind. I’ll stand by these decisions because I know the hard work, negotiations, and the ability to bring people together show that I’m actively working for Ward 7.

During my short two terms as Alderman, we have accomplished a lot. We have secured approximately 28 acres of open space and recreational land in Ward 7 alone. We’ve received funds to go towards the redesign of the Cambridge/Bedford Road intersection to improve driver and pedestrian safety. We have also seen and will see many improvements to Four Corners. New traffic signalizations, part of a smart grid system, have been installed and will be fully operational shortly. We worked with other city officials to make improvements to the water drainage. Another infrastructure improvement includes the installation of a new force main (sewer line) on Lexington Street to service the residents of Ward 7.

The state has also invested in upgrades to Ward 7. Currently, Cambridge Road is in the process of being repaved and will be completed by the end of the season. Also, the State intends to make significant improvements to handicap accessible ramps and crosswalks on Cambridge Road and Lexington Street. In addition to state road improvements, I co-sponsored a resolve to create more funding for roadway and sidewalk improvements, which ultimately the city council approved an additional $700,000 yearly to add to our state allotment. We need to invest in our roads and infrastructure to improve the quality of life of our residents and ensure the safety of pedestrians/motorists.We also made huge strides in our financial planning. As your alderman, I voted for planning initiatives that led Woburn to receiving AAA bond rating, the highest rating for a municipality. Woburn received this financial rating for the first time, which will allow Woburn to borrow money at lower interest rates, allowing for huge savings, to fund future improvements.

As always, I will further my commitment and continue to support initiatives for our police, fire, and first responders to keep our community safe. This includes ensuring that first responders have updated facilities. Also, I will ensure our schools continue to receive the support from the city council to move our district forward, that has previously included supporting budgets that increased funding for special education, english language learners, modernizing curriculum, and more aid for social/emotional support staff. It is my hope that through what we’ve been able to accomplish and through my commitment to the ward, I have earned your support but most importantly, your trust. I look forward to continuing to bring a common sense and responsive approach to representing the residents of Ward 7 and Woburn on the city council.I respectfully ask for the honor to continue serving as your alderman. Please remember to vote, Lindsay Higgins, for Alderman of Ward 7 on Tuesday, Nov 5.
