Malden Man Charged With Drunk Driving for Fifth Time
The man said he was speeding because he was late for a wake.

A Malden man was charged with drunk driving for the fifth time as he was reportedly headed to a wake in Woburn Sunday night.
Woburn Police arrested Albert James Maginnis Jr., 53, 152 Tremont St., Malden, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor (fifth offense).
Woburn Police received a call about an erratic driver operating a car that may have been on fire on Montvale Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

A few minutes later, an officer saw the vehicle on Arlington Road. Both tires were smoking and the driver allegedly pulled over and crashed into another vehicle.
Police spoke to the driver who said he was late for a wake. He said he was driving fast and that’s why smoke was coming from his brakes.

Officers could smell alcohol on the man so they had Maginnis perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Police searched the car and found an open Mike’s Hard Lemonade on the floor and a liquid that smelled like alcohol all over the dashboard and center console.
