Massive Autotransformer Being Transported to Woburn

The piece of equipment weighs nearly a half-million pounds and will take hours to come in from Everett, as soon as today.

Woburn will be receiving a nearly half-million pound piece of Eversource equipment as soon as Wednesday, the power company said.

Eversource is moving an autotransformer from Everett to Woburn, and the relatively short journey will take several hours to complete. The 12-axle trailer hauling the autotransformer travels at a max speed of 5 miles per hour.

The autotransformer weighs 467,000 pounds and is 35 feet long, 13 feet wide, and 18 feet tall.

The delivery route will include Everett, Chelsea, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham, Arlington, Winchester, and Woburn. The end location will be the Woburn Substation on Pond Street. MassDOT approved the route.
