Ninety Nine's Job Seeking Is Up Well More Than 99%, Restaurant Chain Says

The iconic New England restaurant chain, which began in 1952 and is now based in Woburn, may be bucking a downturn in hires.

WOBURN, MA — Despite a general downturn in hospitality hiring, restaurant chain Ninety Nine is doing business quite well after nearly three-quarters of a century, thank you very much.

The iconic, Woburn-based company says its nearly 100 branches have received a 122% increase in job applications since last year, according to a statement.

The specific numbers weren’t available, and Patch wasn’t able to immediately verify the percentage. But the data may suggest a trend-breaker. The number of eatery jobs fell by 30,000 across the U.S. in February, year-over-year, according to the National Restaurant Association.

The Ninety Nine was founded by Charlie Doe in 1952 at 99 State St. in downtown Boston, and today has 93 branches across New England and upstate New York.

The chain is known for its pub fare and seafood. The name stems from the original address, which now belongs to office space.
