Obituary: Mario Liberatore, Published "My Lonesome Rose" at 90

MARIO LIBERATORE - Woburn, 92, a resident of Woburn for 63 years, died after a short illness on November 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Anna (Campagna) Liberatore for 68 years.
Mario was born in East Boston , and was the son of the late Rocco Liberatore, Sr. and Linda (Perna) Liberatore. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School with the Class of 1940. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1967 with a degree in Industrial Technology and a Minor in Electronics with honors.

During World War II, he served 39 months in the U.S. Army as a communications chief in the coastal defense of the island of Oahu, Hawaii. After his honorable discharge from the army, he was employed by the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom Field where he was a member of the staff of the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories and served as the focal point for unsolicited research proposals submitted to the organization by aerospace companies and universities throughout the United States and allied countries.
He was an active member of Saint Joseph’s Church in Woburn for 63 years and a member of the Woburn Lodge of Elks for 45 years. Mario also became a published author at the ripe old age of 90. In 2012, he published, “My Lonesome Rose”, a collection of his poems he had written during his deployment during his World War II service. It is available on Amazon!

Mario was preceded in death by brothers, Umberto, Umberto (Al), and Rocco; and sisters Marguerite DiGiampaolo Corsano and Elena Dezenzo.
In addition to his loving wife , Anna , Mario was the devoted father of Patricia Ann Kelley and her husband, John (Jack) of Ipswich; Maryanne Olsen and her husband, Robert, of Sudbury; Steven and his wife, Kathleen (Barrett) of Franklin. He was the cherished grandfather of seven, Daniel and his wife, Angela; Kimberly and her husband, Jason; John M. and his wife, Windy; Kathryn and her husband, Philip; Cameron, Andrew, and Madison. And the loving Papa involved in the lives of his eight great-grandchildren, Annabella, Tyler, Ryan, Travis, Abigail, Violet, Emily, and Jane. Mario is also survived by an extensive family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral from the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Road, Woburn on Wednesday, November 5th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 10 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at Graham Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Professional services are under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home.
