Obituary: Mary "Bonnie" (Lafayette) Canaway, Nurse Assistant

Mary “Bonnie” (Lafayette) Canaway, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away after a brief illness on Friday evening, November 21. She was 66 years of age.
Raised in Woburn, she was one of nine children of the late Gustin, and the late Alice (Turgiss) Lafayette. “Bonnie,” as she was known to family and friends, was a graduate of Woburn High School.
Prior to her retirement, Bonnie had worked as a nurse’s assistant at the Bear Hill Nursing Home in Stoneham. She was an avid Red Sox fan, and in her spare time she enjoyed trivia, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling, especially by bus in the Northeast and along the East coast. Most of all, Bonnie was devoted to her family.
Bonnie is survived by her two children, Ken Canaway, Jr. and his wife Meredith of Cummings, Georgia; and Sue Simanski and her husband Jeff of Southborough; and two grandchildren, Emily & Andrew Canaway of Cummings, GA. She is also survived by her eight brothers and sisters, Wallace Lafayette and his wife Kris of Billerica, Ruth Lafayette-Gariepy and her husband Richard of Woburn, Gustin “Bud” Lafayette of Woburn, Donald Lafayette and his wife Tracey of Litchfield, CT, Lynn Burke and her longtime companion Phil Smith of Dracut, Joan Pelletier and her husband Ray of Stoneham, Beth Sandvik and her husband John of Woburn, and Faye Ganchi and her husband Tony of Tewksbury. She is further survived by many nieces & nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Montvale Congregational Church, 36 Orange St. (Cor. of Central St.) in Woburn on Tuesday, November 25 at 10:00 am. Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd. (Cor. of Pleasant St.) Woburn on Monday evening from 4-8 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bonnie’s memory may be made to the Montvale Congregational Church, 36 Orange St., Woburn, MA 01801.
