Obituary: Ronald William Verheyen, Teamster for Consolidated Freightways Motor Co. For 30 Years

Was a member of the 1st Cavalry and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

On January 1, 2015 Ronald William Verheyen of Woburn, MA passed away peacefully at Winchester hospital. Ron was 85 years old. He was the husband of E. Brenda (Chisholm), with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in Revere, he was the only child of the late Edward Verheyen and Dorothy (Lavery) Verheyen. Ron joined the United States Army as a young man and served from 1948 to 1964, serving in five campaigns across World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the 1st Cavalry and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

After his tour of service, he and his wife Brenda settled in Woburn and raised 3 daughters. He worked as a Teamster for the Consolidated Freightways Motor Company for 30 years. Ron was actively involved with local sports organizations Woburn Little League and Woburn Youth Hockey. He was also a proud member of the Woburn Irish American Club and the Woburn Elks 908.

He enjoyed many years coaching various girls softball teams and could always be heard cheering on the local teams whatever the sport. Later in life, he and Brenda, along with their extended family had enjoyed many wonderful vacations, travelling many places from Aruba to Alaska. In recent years, Ron spent the winter months golfing in the sunny, warm climate of Florida, visiting friends and family throughout the state.

Ron spent the last 25 years enjoying his golf game and spending his time at Sandy Burr Country Club Wayland where he worked as a golf ranger and pro shop employee. He enjoyed helping others with their golf game and loved golfing with his buddies in the Inner club and his Tuesday morning swingers.

Ron will be remembered as a great guy with a firm handshake with his word as good as gold, but most notably he will be remembered for his devotion and dedication to his family.

He is lovingly survived by his beloved wife E. Brenda (Chisholm), and 3 daughters: Karen A. Mottola and her husband Patsy of Marblehead, Kimberly A. Delling and her husband Michael of Wilmington, and Kathy A. Verheyen-Berry of Woburn; along with his grand children, great-grand children and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main Street, Winchester on Monday, January 5th at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lane Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
