Ray died on Feb. 1. She had lived in Woburn since 1952.

Virginia (Delaney) Ray, 83, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday morning, February 1. She was the wife of the late William R. Ray who died in 2006.
Born and raised in Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late Paul R., and the late Mary E. (McQuillan) Delaney. Virginia was a graduate of the Dorchester High School for Girls, graduating with the class of 1948.

Virginia came to Woburn in 1952, and lived here for the rest of her life. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, camping, and she was a member of a bowling league in Winchester. She had worked as a cashier at the former Lucia’s Supermarket in Woburn Center for many years. Virginia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved being with family, and took care of her grandchildren growing up so they did not need to attend day care.
Virginia was the mother of Virginia Carrigan and her husband Daniel of Henderson, Nevada, Sandra Anderson and her husband James of Dunedin, Florida, William Ray, Jr. of Woburn, James Ray and his wife Caren of Woburn, Marcia Nunnelley and her husband William, Jr. of Woburn, and the late Susan Milley. She was the sister of John Delaney, Helen L’Heureux, and Jean Delaney, all of Dorchester, the late Paul Delaney, the late Father Tom Delaney, the late Arthur Delaney, the late Leo Delaney, the late Francis Delaney, the late Billy Delaney, the late Pauline Ziniti, and the late Mary Corbett. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Services will be private. Contributions in Virginia’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Ste. B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
